Counselling & Psychotherapy

Counselling and Psychotherapy can be used to help address a range of problems that are psychological or emotional in nature and aims to improve an individual’s sense of mental, emotional and physical well-being. Psychotherapy uses varying techniques based on communication, dialogue, relationship-building and behavioural change. We currently offer Humanistic Counselling [and Psychotherapy].

Humanistic models of Counselling and Psychotherapy emerged in reaction to both behaviourism and psychoanalysis and are therefore known as the Third Force in the development models of psychology. This model is explicitly concerned with the human context of the development of the individual with an emphasis on subjective meaning, a rejection of determinism, and a concern for positive growth rather than pathology. It posits an inherent human capacity to maximize potential, “the self-actualizing tendency. The task of Humanistic therapy is to create a relational environment where this tendency might flourish. Humanistic psychology models are philosophically rooted in existentialism.”
